British Citizenship by Discretion (CBR post 1982)

It will depend on the consulate. Some wait until there are enough people to do a group ceremony with some pomp and circumstance. Other places, it’s just you in someone’s office with a picture of the King.

I’ve really learned a lot on this thread/forum, but I still have some questions.
I think I should qualify for British citizenship under section 4L… I understand that this is in the uk legislation, but where do I find it? Lol
my basic info
Grandfather born in England in 1943. Moved to the US in 1957. Married my US born grandmother in 1962/1963.
My mom: US born in 1963
Me: US born in 1985 (parents weren’t married but I don’t think it matters, since I’m only claiming citizenship through my mother).
My British grandfather moved back to England in the 1970’s. My mom has never claimed her citizenship, but I’m working to get her to do so.
any assistance is greatly appreciated!

would my grandfather have registered my mother’s birth if she had been a boy? I’ll be honest in that I have no idea how that works lol.
or would my mother have to have registered mine if she had been male?
I know I’ll have to explain why it’s a special circumstance, but I’m not exactly sure how or why.

eta- 4L isn’t listed in the fee schedule… is it the £1480 regular resignation fee? Or the ceremony only fee?
I feel like it’s the full £1480 but I’m hoping it’s the £130 lol. Thanks!

I just don’t know if we can afford that :/.

Yes, unfortunately it’s the higher fee as you were born after 1 January 1983.

Is there a specific reason you want to obtain it now? Just wondering if you could wait, or even not bother if you don’t have any need for UK citizenship?

. If worse comes to worse, the kids and I would leave, husband would stay until he retires next year, sell stuff as he can. having citizenship would just be one thing I wouldn’t have to deal with at that time.
never in a million years thought this is where my life would go lmao.
best of luck!

My application is officially over 7 months now. Ive emailed Further nationality enquires and they gave their usual response. That was a month ago. Is there anything else I can do?
