Default Moving to Nassau

Afternoon all!

I've accepted a job in Nassau and company are in the process of sorting the work permit etc... it's taking forever and their HR people are a little uncommunicative so I thought I'd ask some questions here if I may.

For the permit I'm told I need a police and a medical certificate. I'm familiar with the former but what exactly do they need in the way of a medical certificate? Is there something I can ask my GP for specifically? Will they know what I need?

I've also read different information on various sites re: the timing of the certificates - some say they have to be <30 days old, some dont mention it. I tried calling Bahamian consulate in London but they just give you an email address and nobody appears to reply to emails!

I've already been there to look for an apartment already, it's quite pricey! Is there a cheaper option than going through an agent? Anybody have a particularly good contact for me to use? Looking to live cable beach area ideally.

Cheers!
Monty

Hi there,

Just dropping in from Barbados... although each country requires its own set of paperwork for work permits, usually the police check and med cert are roughly the same from country to country.

I apologize in advance if this is not the case.

There should be a blank med cert that Immigration requires - your future employer or their lawyer should have a copy. Ask for it, so your doc knows what he/she is evaluating. Your home GP probably won't know all the specifics that Bahamas requires, although they may have a general idea.

Best of luck, and apologies in advance if I've led you the wrong way.
