we have been here for 5 years this month...originally in Sask and now in Ontario....still not feeling settled but know we are better off being in Canada than the UK...i think once we have found a house to call our home im hoping will help..we have moved house and province 4 times altogether...now going to proceed with our citizenship..and take it from there...we have had our currant house up for sale the last year without a sniff of a sale..so taken off the market and will put it back up in the spring and hope we sell.

Contratulations on sticking it out this long.
It was at the 5 year mark that things started to settle down for me, I still miss the UK but I don't resent the fact that I am here anymore which obviously helps everyone out in the long run.
Here's hoping your new home settles you in and I hope you have a great 2013!

It was about five years for us too before feeling settled.
Your own home, in a place you want to stay, can mean so much too. Four moves since being here is a LOT.
Best wishes for the next year!

This is a very nice and insightful read. I am an english expat living in New Zealand who really wants to visit Canada (and perhaps move there in a few years provided I gain more skills). Out of pure and random curiousity, how does Ontario remind you of the UK (I completely understand that Canada isn't UK as such, but naturally curios anyway)? Is it generally more straight foward to visit the UK from there (NZ is a bit further than the UK than Eastern Canada)? I wish you the best of luck for the future :-).

hi Wessex, the part of Ontario where i live reminds me a lot of the UK..because it gets so damn, dreary and miserable here...also the people in this part of Ontario people arent so friendly either ..this is how it reminds me of UK..ive not been back home yet but i know loads do ..and its one straight flight back for most...whatever you decide good luck in your adventures.
