Hi
As a "pick me up" I would suggest "rescue remedy". It's a floral remedy so there's nothing nasty in it and it's not addictive but really has quite amazing and quick results.
What worries me about a lot of you guys on here who have been in Canada for several years is that you have the reverse syndrome to us still in the UK. We see Canada with rose tinted glasses, not wanting to hear anything negative about the place whereas you have forgotten the UKs shortcomings and so only remember the "good old days".
So question to all of you Canadian brits: What motivated you to emigrate in the first place? (it's easy to always think that the grass is greener on the other side, I know, I have lived half my life in the UK and half in France!!!)

Not being picky or anything - it just bugs me when folk confuse the two and advise folk who really need help to do something superficial and useless.
I know some anti-depressants have nasty side effects and withdrawal symptoms but some people are willing to put up with those because they really need them.

I think your post is refreshingly honest. But you are probably in the worst position that you have been in since arriving? So are'nt you seeing things from the worst position possible?
The problem with being down/depressed is that it is a downward spiral and its hard to reverse this trend. Antidepressants would do you no harm if they help pick you up and help improve your situation. You probably don't realise that people can feel your negativity (although your post could of sounded worse!) and maybe this doesn't help with the job hunting/ socialising side of things. Imagine yourself with a great job with great colleagues and friends - would you have the same view of things.
Same shit different day - but hopefully with better surroundings???
Wish you luck in improving your lot!
