Can I join in too?

We're also in Lancashire and have had our house on the sale since September last year - it is such a pain waiting.... and waiting... and hoping the house sells before the market takes a total nose dive :curse:

We've got a viewing on Tuesday which sounds like a 'carpet treader' to me but we'll wait and see!?

We're heading to Calgary and will be landing next month to clear immigration and sort SINs etc but we'll have to come back and keep our fingers crossed for the house to sell. With us landing next month, at least we'll have the best part of 3 years to sell but I'm hoping we can get it shifted this year :sneaky: We too have dropped our price by 25k (GBP) and changed the price to OIR. Crazy what we'll do to get that sale! 60k is lots though. So frustrating to take that decision and then for nothing to happen. Still, Spring is around the corner so hopefully things will pick up for us all.

...even more waiting? I'm not sure I can 'wait' anymore. I'm not the most patient of people to start with. OH says my motto is: "Be reasonable, demand the impossible yesterday" :D

Good luck with all your plans and fingers crossed for house sales for us all.

Andrea

Good luck with your house viewing and with selling the house.

I am originally from "ower t'ill" in Clitheroe (I'm presuming you are in Sabden, based on your name?!). I think we were lucky and sold our house at the right time last year, I know things seemd to have slowed down a lot there in the housing market.

Have you got anywhere in mind in Calgary yet?

Lisa

Can I join in?

Had a viewing last night, they made all the right noises, so I thought "Great, hopefully one house down, another to go!"

Just got a call! Apparently he loved it, she didn't! Something about a couple of the neighbouring properties have drive ways and with the cars parked in them it made it look like a car park?????? Nearly all properties have driveways and people park their cars in them?????

Oh well, we keep on waiting!

Re: Yet another house viewing.

Are people still using agents a lot in the UK or do house buyers use the internet?

In Brussels people who are looking to move use first the internet and then estate agents.

What we found when we sold ours was that the foreigners were looking and not the locals...

There's a very good discussion on estate agents and selling houses in a downward market in Freakonomics. They suggest selling at a discount early to save more money in the long term (if your house is always a bit high priced than the market, you can't sell).

Best of luck to those still trying to sell!

Apologies if this has been posted elsewhere... I came across it in a Guardian article yesterday. I'm afraid it is more than a bit discouraging for those of you trying to sell a house in the UK at the moment. Still some may find it useful...

Something will happen.

Our house has now been on the market for 11 months and 4 estate agents later and a drop of £45k we have had an offer today another £15k under, . Trying to decide whether to accept. We have been in the process of applying and selling now for nearly 4 years!!!

So smile as those lovely buyers come round, they are not viewing THEY ARE GOING TO BUY !!
Lets hope it happens soon. I am going back now to flip the coin once more to help make the decision

I spent ages cleaning the bloody house today before yet another 15 min viewing (I am one of those complusive cleaners)

You get that really good feeling about them as they are viewing and you get that annoying phone call saying sorry they are not interested.

We put the house up in November and have had about ten viewings so far, it gets so disheartening when not one of them has even placed an offer.

Bloody interest rates.

Ahhhhh!

I feel better now for getting it off my chest, thank you.

Hi There

We are trying to sell our house as well what a night mare.

Sympathise with you all it is a very stressful time selling houses. :(
Still there is hope in this buyer’s market and credit crunch.

Our house was on the market for six weeks and had eight viewers. We have just accepted an offer which was only 5K under the asking price and no chain. Still only sold subject to contract so not home and dry yet but at least I can stop living in a show home for now. Sick to death of cleaning and having to put ever little thing away after using it.:frown:

On the bright side the de-cluttering did reduce the house contents to the size of a 20’ container. Bloke at the local tip is sick of the sight of us, boy do you accumulate some junk over the years.

Re: Yet another house viewing.

Tell me about it! I have only put mine on the market recently and, as it is only small one bed property, it is in quite good price range etc. However i had a lady around to view recently (a buy to let agent) and she wanted me to drop my price by £10,000.

I have course told her no, it had only been on market just over 24 hours. Although i need the money for the CIC funds and my move, I am not that desperate yet. Just hope i made the right decision, what with the housing market being what it is at present?

Hi Lisa W - sorry for the delayed response, not been on exPats for a while!

Clitheroe is just o'er the hill and yes it is the same place you're thinking of.

We're tripping to Canada in a few weeks to take yet another look at areas (and sort PRs etc) and it will depend on where we end up getting work but we're looking at any of the following once we've decided the direction to commute;

South: Okotoks, High River
City South East: McKenzie Lake/Towne, New Brighton
North West: Cochrane

...that's not to exclude any of the other places in and around Calgary but we just had to narrow that list down!!! :)

I see you're in Okotoks. Knowing you're from the same areas as us, have you found the transition from Ribble Valley to Okotoks relatively seamless?

Can't wait to be there!!!

Sabden Tom

It is a mighty small world, we too are in Sabden, just sent our updates back and now fingers crossed its medical requests next

Do you mind if i ask you how you have narrowed down where your going, we would dearly love to find a similar sized location to here over there if you know what I mean, semi-rural but ability to 'go to town' easily.

I must say slightly concerned at your lack of interest for your house, we had hoped that when (if) our time comes it would be easier to sell as location !!

Anyway good luck

hi

lol, it must be something in the air round here, there will be no-one left in these parts as it sounds like everyone is trying to get out!!

As for which area , ha ha !! initially when started process in 2005 we thought ontario as more populated easier to get jobs, briefly considered Alberta after emigrate show in 2006 now considering Nova Scotia !! So i suppose the real answer is ...mmm not sure

So you have got your house up for sale ? have you got your visa's or jobs ?
