Would like to move to Canada advise needed

Re: Would like to move to Canada advise needed
However there are still many (perhaps those not educated enough to have read this) that say the education system in Canada is not much cop. Additionally, many special needs kids have had their support cut back or withdrawn altogether.
On reading the article, Canada comes near the top an reading, however I am continually amazed at the poor use of grammar, spelling, punctuation and diction in Canada and the US. I guess one can make stats say whatever you want depending on the sampling method.

But, again, the exact same thing applies to the UK. The 3 education systems are comparable and it's possible to find somewhere to thrive in all 3 countries. It's also possible for good students to underachieve in all 3 countries because of a poor teaching environment. So it doesn't make sense to advise someone not to emigrate to Canada based on the education system - and especially so given Canada's higher ranking by the OECD.

My opinion is that the UK stats are being dragged down by poor performances in certain areas, e.g. inner cities, areas with high recent immigrants who perhaps don't have great English etc.
At the other end of the scale, bright British kids are as bright as they've ever been. Good exam results are helped by teachers who chase A*s rather than teaching, but that's not exclusive to the UK. Ultimately, pushy parents distort the stats as much as disinterested ones.
In between, there's a very broad range, with most likely a decent general education to be had.
All most kids need to to is get through High School with enough certificates to give them the opportunity to make their way in the world. That's not overly hard to do, in any country, at any school.
To emigrate from the UK citing the kids' education as a reason is nothing other than wild self-delusionment.

For anyone who finds these sorts of surveys credible this link shows Alberta to be the "best" in Canada.

Aviator,
Thank you for your time and advise.
Quantity Surveyor in Canada is called slightly different - cost controller or construction estimator.
Although UK is a great country and has a lot to offer as a young ambitious couple we at time feel out of place. The current economic climate in UK is very depressing. We've moved to London last year because we couldn’t find any jobs in the North part of UK; however London is an expensive place to live etc plus we both like outdoor activities etc but again weather in UK is very restricting. We like Scotland but no jobs and terrible weather has made us re think our options.
There are other things like UK's education system and so on which we find rather appalling so not exactly a great place to bring kids up etc.
I hope this makes sense?
Regards
Dash

As you are both under 30 I would suggest coming over on a working holiday visa for a year to see whether you like it - this would give you the opportunity to visit/live/work wherever you choose and make contacts in your industry. You could then investigate options for PR if you decide that staying long-term is right for you. I came over on a working holiday in 2003/4 and then looked into PR, which I got in 2008.

Don't listen to the negative comments. For some their dreams didn't work out. You're in your 20's, a great time in life to get out, see the world and explore your own dreams.
