Don't remind me!! ..... busy swotting up on respiratory (again) today. I read it and remember it for about 40 seconds at a time!

One thing for Mrs Stuarty.... I am having great difficulty persuading CHR to pay me more than the starting rate (step 1 on a 9-step scale!) even though I have had two managers assure me that I should be on the top rate with my qualifications and experience. The thing is, they need what they call evidence of portability, ie actual HOURS worked over the last 6-10 years. Bizarrely, they do not take into account the job you are doing, or the job you might have BEEN doing for 20 years, just the number of hours.

I have had two letters from my old UK manager submitted, but I'm not sure I'm any closer. The managers keep telling me it WILL be sorted out, and it will be retro-active, but I've been employed with CHR since end of Feb now, and no evidence of it even being considered!

I think if you can get confirmation from your UK payroll office of actual hours worked, THAT is what you need. I am getting hissed off at the whole subject, and biding my time til I have successfully passed my credentialling exam (fingers-crossed), and get my full registration, I shall be in a stronger position to tell them where to put their job if it's not sorted out soon!

The exam is stressful enough, and we shall be moving too this month, and our house is still currently uninhabitable cos the builders have been working elsewhere instead of concentrating on ours ..... grrrr, I can do without it! Exam is on 3rd June. :scared:

Hi again Morwenna, we hope that we are in a slightly stronger position because Mrs Stuarty is applying for a rural post' the type that they have great difficulty in filling (i.e anything more than 1hr out of Edmonton). Mrs Stuarty is so pissed off with the Canadian Alliance that she could tell them to stuff the whole thing and become a Physio helper once our PR's are through, what a waste of her experience though.. Let us know how the exam goes because I am sure she will knuckle down to her studies when we actually get to Canada. Good luck

Hi All

How long does the Work Permit last for - is it only 12 months?

This was done in the states as we lived there, so I don't know how quickly London turn them round. We arrived in Ontario on March 10th.
The downside is that although its a permanent job the initial WP was only for 12 months. However we are told that reapplying up to 3 years is unlikely to be a problem. With a little bit of luck we may only need another year
Its great to get here quickly and at the moment we are trying not to think too much about the PR, it could make you very nervous! We've bought a house and everything is sorted, the idea of being forced to go back to the UK is to terrible to contemplate.
If you think your application is fairly safe then go for it! So far we have no regrets.

Hi David, there doesn't seem to be any set time as I have seen permits issued for 3 years and some for 6 months. I think it depends on the Job it relates to. Lots are issued for 1 year though. Depending on the circumstances they are readily renewable and a simple trip into the USA and back allows you to extend/renew them on re-entry to Canada.
