Hi all....here's a few questions for all the people now living in Ontario:

1) What job did you do in the UK? What was your first job in Ontario? What job do you do now?

2) Did you have a job arranged before you moved to Ontario?

3) If not, how did you find jobhunting once in Canada?

4) How did you get your first job in Ontario? (Was it through an add in paper, cold calling, networking etc)

5)How long did it take you to get the first job?

6)How much did you earn in that first job?

7) If you have since changed jobs, were you able to 'move up' to a better job?

1/ Was an Occupational Therapist in the UK, first job (and current job) in Ontario is same.
2/ Had sent CV/resume to employers online - had one job offer following telephone interview but job offer revoked when visa didn't come through quickly enough. second job offer came out of the blue by e-mail - hadn't even applied for it, but employer had gotten hold of my CV through networking with another employer in the area.
3/ Not applicable.
4/ See above.
5/ E-mailed resume in response to maternity leave position in March, heard no more about it, got e-mail from current employer out of the blue in August.
6/ Standard wage for the position, fairly similar to UK earnings, a wee bit lower.
7/ Don't intend to change jobs for a while!

Don't know if this info helps as the job market for my sort of work is fairly small and limited.

Hi kellie-in answer to your questions,

I worked in the hotel industry and do the same job in canada

I didnt have a job arranged before I came here

I got my job via related internet employment sites

It took me 2 months -sent out about 30 resume's,didn't hear further from many of them,then got offered 2 jobs at once.

I earn about the same as in the UK,although my dollar goes further

Not planning on changing jobs until I've been there a year
