Default Working in canada

Hi, I'm an apprentice trained pipe welder just got back from Australia after a really bad experience with a really bad company. Was wanting to come to Canada I know there's a lot of work on fort McMurray and other related sites, just wanted to know what sort of qualifications and training I would need to get onto them sort of jobs ? e.g confined space any welding tickets. Where I could obtain them ? And if there's anything else that could help me get out there and get work would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Hi, and welcome to BE.

I'm not sure there is a lot of work in Fort McMurray at the mo with the downturn in oil, if you search the forums you'll find more info about the current state of the employment in AB though, and others will be along to advise you better.

But to work in Canada, you'd need a job offer, and a LMIA - the LMIA is something the employer has to apply for, to prove that they've advertised the job across Canada and been unable to find a Canadian willing, or able, to do the job. Once you've got the written job offer and LMIA you can then apply for a work permit.

You're not by any chance aged 30 or under? If so, there's another possible visa option called the IEC which would be much easier.

I think your profession is also regulated, so you'll need to get certified, again a quick search of the forum will give you more info about how to go about that. Search for 'Red Seal' and it should bring up some relevant threads.

HTH a bit, best of luck.
