Hi. Been offered a job working around Calgary as industrial cladder.
Any one else do this type of work.
What's it like when it's cold. Is it bearable.
What's the cost of living and life style like.
This is all new to me, so any advice would be welcome.
Thanks

Cost of living will be about the same as in the UK, have a search to find previous threads on the subject and there is also a Wiki article.
I'm sure those in the AB construction industry will help you re: winter work.
Good luck.

- am sure you'll get all the 'theres no such thing as cold weather just bad clothes' etc bollocks, and the merits of layering....
but being stuck up a building in the hooring wind all day
cost of living - more pages than war & peace have been written on this
-my own thoughts are generally pretty close over the piece
lifestyle - okay if you've got kids/family
as a young couple/single ; i would not bother

I worked outdoors through my first 5 winters here and survived just fine. Good clothing does matter, to say it's bollocks is just ignorant.

I really know nothing about construction so correct me if I'm wrong but, in winter, don't some buildings under construction have a big puffy looking layer put around them; is this to keep the cold out/keep the workers warmer or for some other reason? I really don't know; just curious. We had a building in our town that was put up a few months ago; not much more than a steel frame before it turned into something resembling a giant marshmallow overnight.

I wondered about this too because my oh is looking for operator jobs but we wondered about winter time. I've saw one or two jobs say the season runs from March to December (I think) but I've saw others that seem to be all year round, maybe it depends on what you do. I'll keep a eye on the thread!

I swear by these: http://www.cabelas.ca/product/7675/i...-tracker-boots Never had cold feet with them. Not steel toed if you need that though.
Also, I hear carharrt work wear is good, especially, carharrt arctic coveralls.
