I agree with Eamonn and Janet, I would expect a full refund from them.

They are supposed to be phoning in the morning again - so we will have to see what they say then, I think I would be happy if they did waive everything but something tells me that won't happen.

We actually 'camped out in our house for 6 weeks until our stuff arrived. We got by with multiple visits to the local charity shop and then took it all back later.

We were in our house in the UK for 2 weeks, and our house here for 2 weeks, pretty much without any furniture.

We had 2 camp chairs, a travel cot for my youngest, an inflatable for my eldest and an inflatable for me and the wife. We bought a bag of plastic knives n forks, styrofoam plates etc, and 4 proper mugs... oh, and we bought a TV after about a week.
It was only a couple of months ago, but seems like ages ago now. We did fine for those couple of weeks, so I'm sure you'll be alreet too.

Such a shame about your situation with Pickfords.

We used them when we moved to Montreal a few years ago and the were fantastic if i'm honest but it seems as though service as gone down the pan and prices gone up.

Good luck getting your goods back sooner rather than later and make sure you get max compensation.

It depends whether they ship it direct from China to Canada, or it goes back via England. One of the boxes from our container was sent to Australia and had to be returned to England and then be shipped here. It should arrive this month - six months after we last saw it and four months after the rest of our goods were delivered to Calgary.

We were lucky that there was nothing too important in that box - having everything go to the wrong country must be a nightmare.

OMG so sorry to hear this, hope you will be claiming compensation as no doubt you will have to buy things to tide you over until it eventually arrives!

Hi everyone - latest update - the container should be leaving HK on 17th Feb - but as they kept stressing - THIS IS ONLY A PROVISONAL DATE!!! We managed to get 1500 gbp from them - they said it was a goodwill gesture as it wasnt their fault - the shipping line was to blame - when we get their details we will get onto them too.
Jen thanks for the offer of a settee - we actually got one, the lady who we are renting from left one in the house temporarily for us. I am just so mad with pickfords - but other good news I have 3 interviews and one is in VANCOUVER!!!! Ideal job though.

Mike,

Sorry to hear about your problems with Pickfords, but on a purely selfish level this is very timely for me, as I am currently gathering quotes for my intended move.

One of the other removal companies that are providing quotes mentioned that Pickfords had a bad rep. but have recently been taken over by another company and have improved. Clearly not quickly enough to help you though!

Good luck and best wishes - I know it is a cliche but you'll laugh about this in years to come!

S.
