Just had to add my 15%-18% worth. I tip on the basis of the food cost, I don't tip on the !3%+ tax charged for GST/PST more on booze. Also I don't tip the full wack on the wine, the restaurant has already marked it up at least 100%, so I'm not going to tip $8.00 for a $40.00 of wine.

I wouldn't tip someone to open a bottle of wine, it's not like it's hard work. I think that is just taking the p**s

I do tip 15% on the wine. It's the done thing. What the sommelier can do for that money is to navigate the wine list and suggest an appropriate wine at a price the customer is willing to pay. He or she might even bring samples to the table. Regardless, the tip is part of the price of eating out and if you're not willing to pay it, you shouldn't order the wine.

Never tip when its included in the bill. Also find going out to different places and not being a regular a great way to avoid the expectation of paying someone for doing their job.

Wish I could make multiples of my salary for helping customers solve problems.
