What's your commute?

You haven't said where you live. As YCD said about Aberdeen, the distance is beside the point (to an extent) if the traffic doesn't move!
I've been driving to the other side of Calgary for my commute .... takes anything from 30 minutes to 2 hours (!) depending on the weather and traffic. I soon decided it was something I'd rather not do, as I'd be so tired coming home that I'd often get sleepy!
My new job is "downtown" and I am planning on taking the C-train
Once the new station opens in 2008, that will be even more convenient!

In England, my OH had a 1 hour commute from Coventry to central Birmingham. I travelled in with him then carried on, so I had 1 hour by car, 20 minutes by train, and 20 minutes on foot to and from work each day.
Now, in Canada, we work at the same company which is about 30km away, and takes us about 40 minutes each way, depending on traffic.

I live in a little known town called Ashton-Under-Lyne. I can agree with YCD's comments regarding distance + traffic, however, the reason I was asking the question was so I could get a feel for whether people do the long distance travelling in Canada or whether they all prefer to live close to where they work.

Generally here (in Alberta) we drive far longer distances than in the UK and think nothing of it, but whether you live and work in a small community, in a "large" city, or somewhere out in the sticks will have a bearing on the distance you have to drive of course.
Canadians (in my experience) tend to talk about how many hours a drive is, rather than how far in distance!

Regular commute: somewhere within the 32 acre confines of home. Travel to Vancouver and lower mainland 2 or 3 times per month which is a 4 or 5hr drive, or just under and hours flight.
Used to commute 40-50 mins each way in the UK. Not interested in having to do that again, it's such a waste of productive time.

Uk commute for the Mrs & I, approx 30 miles, rural & suburban total travelling time for whomever was driving after dropping the other off (it varied) approx 75 minutes. Often would take me 20 minutes to get out of the industrial estate and across the A127 in the evenings.
Commute here in Newfoundland. Mrs AX travels approx 26 kms in about 28 minutes. Me 13kms approx 15 minutes. Even in the blizzard this morning it was only 25 minutes.
I think the last time I spent more than 5 minutes in a traffic jam was, well, Montreal, Toronto or UK earlier this year!

Mine was a bit like that today - all the way down the basement steps to the office. Normally mine is about 35km (that's just over 20 miles, for the benefit of dbd) - the first mile by bus (or car if I'm feeling lazy or the weather's horrible) and the rest by GO train into downtown TO. Takes me about 45 minutes door to door.
In the UK my journey was only about 7 miles, but took me an hour by train to Victoria via Clapham Junction or by tube on the District line.

Couldn't agree more. I had to go to a conference last week at Don Mills and York Mills, had to drive the 401 across town to get there. Even without the additional headache of some snow yesterday, it was a horrible journey. I couldn't do that every day - I much prefer the extra half hour of sleep/newspaper-reading/work that I can do on the GO.
