How can something be top of a list when you're asking "what is it like ?" ?

Maybe it's a very short list?

Saskatchewan is remarkably spacious, about 2.5 x the area of the UK and only 1.1 million inhabitants

There's a reason for that.

The question was what is Canada really like? (my emphasis)

If the questioner hasn't lived in Canada and people here have it's possible to get a better idea by asking those that have.

I imagine it's top of the list for a variety of reasons important to the questioner and now they are seeking information from others.

A question simply asking "What's Canada really like?" is waaaaaaay too open. People need to narrow down their questions these days and potentially do a bit of leg work since the process they're embarking on can be costly both financially and emotionally.

Agreed. But the OP said Canada was top of the list (so far) suggesting some leg work had already been done to put it at the top of the list and they were now doing more.:)

Yep agreed the initial legwork of finding out where Canada is and the climate variations ;)

Some more leg work should highlight potential areas to live and work. Asking about specifics like that would be much more likely to have more measured and accurate (if a little subjective) responses.

Canada is huge and the variation across it is just as vast.

I very much doubt that this is true. Granted I haven't seen much of Canada but I have seen Mississauga and I've worked in all but six US states. The differences between Mississauga and America are barely discernable to the naked eye; people live in housing estates, they get their house parts at the Home Depot, they go everywhere by truck because the transit's shit. They mostly speak English as well as the language at home. They eat fast food in their cars, sometimes sitting down in a Boston Pizza or East Side Marios. I've seen pictures of various bits of Canada, mostly where posters live, and with a few exceptions, I've no reason to suppose that life is any different there from that in Mississauga or Plano or King of Prussia.

If you want variety, move to the UK. Driving from London to Athens takes you through places where half a dozen different languages are spoken, driving the same distance across Canada takes you past corn. (And yes, ok, some farms have JD combines while others have Case ones, but that's only variety to a Canadian).

Canada to you will be what you make it! It is vast & every Province has it's own feel (despite what the aove poster wrote!)

We love it, we love the mountains and the scenery that goes forthwith, we like the people we've met & I love my job (hubbie is self employed - so I hope he likes his job!) The kids love their school (the education here in Alberta being way more rounded than what they had in the UK IMO.) However, I had a good job to come to before we left the UK, we had a plan for the family and we had close friends where we were going.

We are 100% happier than we were in the UK but we are not you! Only you know what reasons you want to move to Canada & only you know what sort of place you would prefer to live in.
