I suppose I agree that New Mexico isn't like Florida.

I'm saying that far from there being no other place quite like Toronto, Chicago is just like Toronto, similar industries, similar largely immigrant populations, similar appearance (as you point out), similar climate. The lake's on a different side but otherwise it's hard to tell one from the other. I'm not saying that Toronto is horrible, btw, just that it's not special.

Well said. It truly amazes me how so many people go on and on about rubbish tv, crap cheese and no art galleries???? I can understand the issues of work, weather and family matters, but really, give me a break. Happen its just a case of looking for the bad and being a bit of nit picker. Since coming onto BNE I have wondered what I missed when I was in the UK - which incidentally i left in the late 80's - and Canada is definately not like 1980's england - not a set of leg warmers in sight.
Canada is not for everyone - nor is the UK - I wonder, however, what some people are expecting to find - they seem to be much like a dog chasing after its tail.

When I was talking about TV, I was refering to work.
Maybe back in the UK you had a mundane boring life and can be amused by simpler things in life !
Also when I refer to the 1980's I was referring to food for vegetarians in supermarkets.
If you are going to be-little someones opinion read the full OP.

That wise sage and moderator in these parts, Iaink, has often said that a happily employed immigrant = a happy immigrant.
I guess in your case the employment opportunities in the theatrical arts weren't all you hoped they would be, so everything else became an additional reason not to be happy here, even those things that would not, on their own, have made you unhappy enough to consider leaving. I hope you find things better back in the UK.

Sorry felt my spelling and grammar did not deserve to be taken seriously and as for my use of the English Language !

The only person I have in anyway attacked was you, as you initially mentioned that my post could not be taking seriously because of the spelling and grammar mistakes !
I just pointed out a glaring gramatical error you made in that attack and now you are trying to make out I am attacking others.
It's just so childish !

Well as promised I have now found time to write about my experiences and why I am returning to the UK.
When we left for Toronto, My partner and I and the Mother in Law was sure it was going to be for good.
We had a house lined up, furnture and dogs packed and had a big farewell party for all our friends.
We now find ourselves returning to blighty on the QM at the end of August. Financially poorer, but richer in many other ways.
Firstly I am going to try and keep this balanced as it would be too easy to blame Canada for all the problems. There are some advantages to the country but not enough to keep us here.
For anyone thinking of coming to the east coast especially, do not underestimate the weather, the winters here really are brutal and seem to be getting worse. I love the snow, but this was just too much. My Mother in Law in particular found it difficult and felt house-bound for a number of weeks. She is of an older generation of course, but even we were fed up by it.

Well folks after a 12 month period my Partner and I along with her father in law are having to return to the UK. Sadly there are a number of reasons for this, but mainly for my partner's Father - who just can't settle here.
We will be coming back to Britain via the Queen Mary 2 and was wondering apart from the customs form for our property which will follow - do we need to fill out any other forms?
I have to say now that we have made the decision to come back to Britain I am very excited about it.
We may have only lasted a year and I know how hard my Partner is finding have to return, but realises we have no choice! But I have no regrets, I am sure we will talk about returning in years to come and prehaps head to Vancouver. I guess it just was out time to be here.
Any advice regarding paperwork will be appreciated !

Can the OP please explain how his partners Father in Law changed into his partners father and then into his Mother in Law in the space of four months?
