Well after many years of planning and 3 years waiting for the Visa - we're here Arrived in Calgary on 25th August to be met by our wonderful friends who we can't thank enough for all their help and encouragment. We spent 2 long days looking for a vehicle to purchase and then the hard part - insurance!! OMG what a nightmare - we were receiving quotes of $4000 for a $16000 vehicle!!! Insurance companies were not interested in our UK NCD until we came across Canadian Direct Insurance - fantastic quote of $800 however we had to send copies of our UK driving licence which we had just surrended to receive our Alberta Driving Licence So back to the registry Office with a "please can we have copies of our driving licence we've just surrended", no problem was the reply!!! Happy Dayz. So after a long weekend waiting for the insurance office to open again we finally receive our Insurance Documents!!! So for anyone out there looking for car insurance in Alberta - try Canadian Direct but remember to scan all the documentation to send via email - UK Driving Licences (both parts), NCD letters and the Vehicle Report which you'll get from your car dealer once you've purchased.

Congratulations on finally arriving! Yes, it's a shame car insurance is so expensive here, especially when the actual car itself and fuel are much cheaper! When we transferred our driving licences, the lady we dealt with automatically gave us copies of our UK licences saying you'll probably need these! Just as well as we probably wouldn't have thought about taking copies.
