Hi,
I have just been accepted for B.C PNP.
Wether I go out first on work permit or wait for permanent visa is something for myself to decide or my employer(can he wait?)
My job shall be based in Saanich.Does anyone know the area and perhaps recommend any areas close by ?
How far is Saanich from Victoria.Whats it like in Victoria to live.
Any info would be great.
Thanks

Have you posted on the brits2vancouver site? There are quite a few people who live on the island and contribute.

We moved over to the island in Dec 2005 from London UK. I actually work downtown but we live in East Saanich - in Broadmead. Its a great place!

We moved to the Island in June, and absolutely love it. Had a few decision dilemmas before we moved out - we were looking to move ideallly to vancouver, but then managed to get a job in Victoria, so we decided to give it a try, and thought it would at least be a stepping stone into Canada.
Now, after 3 months, we wouldn't go anywhere else. Everytime we go to the mainland/Vancouver we can't wait to get back to the island. You don't feel like you're on a island as it is a big place, and also very cosmopolitan - every weekend there is some event of other going on. So many Canadians have said that we are very lucky moving straight to the island, as many people spend a lifetime trying to migrate west to here!
Everyone here is amazingly friendly (I know that's largely true of most of Canada too), but because it is a relatively small city you don't get the anonymity you get in some places.
Saanich is not far out of Victoria at all, and you could easily live anywhere around Victoria and commute there - it's not as if there's much traffic here! I work downtown and have a pleasant 7 minute drive to work along the coast.
And no, we're not retired, or into olde worlde tea shops (although we are just buying a house in Oak Bay...).
Good luck whatever you decide!

Just a FYI... those quaint tea shops... the famous Blethering Place was started up and still run by a Kiwi, the James Bay one (if it's still there) is owned by Greeks, The Empress... well that just a big corp and I can't think of any others and I've live most of my life there. There are more Bubble Tea shops in Victoria the 'British' ones. The Victoria = a little bit of Britain thing is a charade... cos, as much as the adverts (mostly aimed at Americans who don't want to bother going to Europe) try to say it is, it just isn't.

Victoria/Saanich/etc. are all beautiful and it would be/is a wonderful place to live - especially if you have a job and can afford the houses. I lived there some years ago and hope to get back there one day.....
Good luck

Hi - I'll PM you about my realtor. If you're just trying to get a feel for what's on the market you can always use MLS (http://www.mls.ca/map.aspx?AreaID=760).
Good luck!
