Hi
Im a construction project manager, abd I've been to Toronto previously , stayed in Oakville and loved it- one of the few places I've been around the world that I could have stayed - hence this post
I've been applying to construction recruitment agencies for jobs , but their saying I can't get a position without a visa, I've then made in roads to getting a visa, who said I need a job first
I've just turned 40 so the point system is not on my side, but my wifes a nurse with 20 years exp
Am I right in saying I need to get sponsorship to have a chance of a visa ?

Not sure about "sponsorship", that has specific connontations in immigration discussions
Most likely you are thinking you need to find an employer who wants to hire you and do the paperwork to get you here on a work permit or provincial place. Realisitically thats unlikely to be approved in construction at the moment.
However, the good news is that nursing is on the list for PR places that dont need a specific job offer at present.
Your wife has a better chance the way the system is stacked at present, She should be the primary applicant as a Nurse, then you can come and do what you like on the back of that, either on an open work permit, if she finds a job offer and comes on a temp work permit, or more likely as a permanent resident, depending how you proceed
I'd use her nursing career to get here, not that its without its hassles to go through the qualification recognition thing here in order to work in the field.

The easiest way would seem to be for your wife to apply for permanent residence as a skilled worker. You will also get permanent residence (and so be able to work) as her partner.

“Permanent residence as a skilled worker†! Does she get this by being offered a job, or do we just apply to the visa companies ?

Something like 1 in 3 PR applicants use commercial help, the rest just get the forms and fill them in themselves.
Lots of help to be had here too, but start with the available info thats out there

Just a quick question ,
1. Do the both of us need to apply for the skilled visa , of just one of us ?
2. If she gets offered a job and sponsor, can I travel on here visa, abd vica-versa?

As said above, you would be a dependent on her application, so you'd both get PR. Do just be aware that she won't be able to apply this year unless she's a Licensed Practical Nurse (rather than a Registered Nurse), as the quota for RN's is likely to be met soon. But she could sit her IELTS exam, gather paperwork etc, ready to apply on 1st July when the quota reopens - and just keep fingers crossed that nurses will still be on the list next year!
Can I be nosy and ask what happened with Oz, as I noticed from your very recently postings that you were due to move there in a month or two?
Good luck.

Apparently no oncology nurses required in Oz !!

Really? Gosh, that's surprising. I did only skim over your past posts, but thought you had a job and house all sorted, so was just being nosy and wondering what had made you change your mind at the last minute!
BTW, do check in to what she'll need to do to work as a nurse in Canada - the nurses forum will be useful, and tell her about the exams she'll need to sit etc. And also which provinces she can work in if she's diploma trained rather than degree trained.
