My Nephew went to Uvic to study he graduated this year I visited him on campus in his first year the accommodation was very good and he did very well in his studies, he also had a great social life. He would highly recommend Uvic

University of Oregon or Washington. Personally and that is only personally, apart from UBC I wouldn't bother with the ones west of Ontario. Better off at BCIT.

Doesn't that depend upon the course one intends to take or are students learning nothing of value at all those institutions you have criticised?

No doubt they are, but its about perception that is predicated on reputation. You may well attend an excellent political science course at Bumbut College, taught by a dedicated and talented lecturer but the degree will mean bugger all in the labour market place compared with institutions of higher standing. Its not the quality of course work, its how difficult it is to attend that becomes the determining factor. Its all about rationing. It's asinine I know, but its the reality.

having said that, once you're in the workforce no one really gives a shit what uni you went to. UBC wouldn't accept the OH into their film program. None of the people who made it in are now working in the industry, but he is, and is invited to lecture there - ha!
New grads where i work are from a wide variety of unis. The ones that stick around have a good work ethic and reasonable people skills. The rest don't come back.

I accept that, if one wishes to have a life in academia, the name of the University one attended may make a difference. However, for the rest of the world, it means very little despite what those that teach tell their students. On this issue, I agree with what ExKiwilass has to say. They may get the invitation to the interview and they may even get the job, they won't keep it though
