Hi Everyone,
I was hoping I could get some advice/help with some accommodation in Vancouver.
A bit of context - my partner and I are planning to move to Canada for a year on IEC Visas - we are 27M and 24F if that's relevant. The visas have been approved and we have our port of entry letters. We are planning on moving over in February next year.
To start our journey we hoped we could start in Vancouver and ideally stay there for the first 3 months and hopefully get some part-time jobs such as bar work or similar. Then once the three months are finished we could hopefully move on to another city - potentially a city in Alberta.
In preparation we have had a look on AirBnb & VRBO, however recently I stumbled across a post on TripAdvisor mentioning that for accommodation longer than 30 days, the property requires a business licence. So I asked on the post what would be the implications of staying at one of these properties, and even though we would not be breaking any law, we could potentially be locked out or kicked out if the property was found with no licence.
So the dilemma I have is - do I just book somewhere with no licence in the hope that no one will check? Or I find some accommodation that does have a licence - but finding such accommodation would likely be quite challenging.
If someone could give some advice, if they have experienced the same issue - like did anyone check in on the property licence while you stayed in Vancouver? Am I worried over nothing?
Does anyone have any recommendations for a reputable rental website with listings that include licences?
I have had a look on Craigslist too at a few options but again, none appear to fit with a 3-month stay and has an appropriate licence.
Any Advice and experiences of living in Vancouver in the recent year would be of great help.
Thank you for spending the time to read my post.

The province has heavily restricted short term rentals (they define short term rentals as anything less than 90 days) recently and there's even a form for people to submit tips about short term rentals that are not following the rules

So yes renting an Airbnb is a risk as you cannot tell if they are in compliance. For a 3 month stay, check out the sublets section of Craigslist or Facebook marketplace, there's also a couple of Facebook groups I think.
Also just to set expectations, even for casual work, hiring moves very slowly in Vancouver so I would not expect to walk straight into a job when you arrive.
