[QUOTE=jandro;11566602]I see a newer model available - G Box Q Quad. It looks interesting but there'd be a bit of a learning curve figuring out the Kodi software.[/QUOTE
Nothing to figure , hook into your wifi and the box will do the rest . being a technophobe of the worst case I had ours running in less than 2 minutes .

I have had an android box for many years in the UK and found it to be a whole lot of hassle.
I eventually got a Skybox F5s with a 'Free gift' to watch all the subscribed channels for free and never switched the android box back on again due to the quality difference.

I am looking for something similar to skybox not android.

It may work, not keen myself of having others going though my computer and internet connection.

Yikes, I had no idea. Alarming!

Thanks, removing that now

All the uk BBC/ITV channels are on the droid , but run live . iplayer is probably on there somewhere but I've not looked for it . Don't use the box/tv that much , but it's great for live UK sport and movies plus my Bell bill is a fraction of it's former self .

doesn't get local Canadian stations though - or does it?

Thats a plus point :)

I've actually got CBC news (live) on XBMC in the Phoenix app (I think it is)

There is also CTV Lethbridge, Yorkton, Edmonton and Regina in the Filmon app. Under Canadian TV in the side menu, if you want to watch Canadian.

It can be hard work at first and be quite the learning curve, but I've got the apps I need to watch and it saves me 60 odd bucks a month.

Aren't they the 2 channels or so from one network?

Last weekend I went out & bought a small indoor digital antenna for $19.95. its one of those flat things that measures 5" x 7" x 0.25" thick. The box says it has 25db gain that comes with a built in amplifier.

After a bit of a fiddle around finding the right spot, then positioning the thing on the window sill, pointed in the direction of the transmitters (google ws my friend) - I now have 13 stations - 8 Canadian + 5 US, all different networks. My neighbour has the more expensive model which he paid $60 for, it brings in an additional 3 stations.

A good OTA digital antenna + some android device with XMBC(kodi) downloads, or simply computer linked to Filmon or camposat TV - then its a 'cut the cable' sorted

I've been trying suggest this to tell to the girlfriend for ages. We've got an unrestricted line of sight to the transmitters and I also said, I'd use the extra money to trade up her car to a posher fancy one, but still no go.
