The international version of iPlayer won't have current (or live) programming. It's been rolled out in Europe and should be crossing the Atlantic soon. Only on iPad so far. Likely to be about 10 bucks per month. All archived content (of course the Beeb has the best archives in the world).

But today brought some potentially unpleasant news - UK media reporting that iPlayer may soon be subject to a TV licence fee:

It's available in Australia too, via a subscription service: http://britishexpats.com/news/latest/iplayer-australia/

There is a free iPad app available on Canadian iTunes called 'FilmOn TV'. This
Ets you watch live English TV.

I've only had it a few days and am loving it!

Watching FilmOn on my PC. You get only a few seconds on each channel for free, then you have to take out a subscription - or so it appears.

I registered but it didn't prompt for a subscription on the iPad. I've watched hours of TV on the iPad.

I had almost a year of free access with filmon. The iPlayer worked too.

But I mostly used it for watching England matches that weren't on TV here. Three or four times a year wasn't worth paying for, especially with so many other free alternatives.

There are several sites that have TV soon after broadcast. I watched the Excellent The Hour on one-tvshows.eu. Excellent quality.

No need to miss Downton Abbey, it's on PBS as part of their Masterpiece series. The second series starts in January, so it's only four months behind ITV. I'm not sure what will happen with the Christmas Special though.

I've been using FilmOn on Android for about 5 months now. UKTV comes and goes. They update the listing once in a while and sometimes you don't get the UKTV channels.
