UK teacher moving to Canada (don't laugh)!
Hi,
We have just sent our passports off for our visas to be issued, and now have to decide where to move to. We have completed a number of research trips over the years and our shortlist of provinces is Alberta, BC and Ontario.
We realise that teaching jobs are extremely difficult to come by, but we can all but try. Two of our deciding factors will be the ease with which my teaching qualifications will be recognised by a particular province, and the length of time this process will take. We have looked in detail at the requirements for getting UK qualifications recognised by the above provinces, but we are very keen to hear of any real life experiences of doing this.
We know that we will generate some negative responses to our post, however we need to give it a shot. We are aware of a couple of people who were lucky enough to get full time teaching jobs within a couple of years, without a particular speciality (having moved from the UK), but we no longer have their contact details to ask the same. So who knows!
Thanks.
Androb.

Are we to understand that you are both teachers? If so, you're not going to enjoy your first several years here. Sorry. Don't shoot the messenger.

Thanks for your reply. I am a primary school teacher, degree plus PGCE, with a specialism in special needs provision in the mainstream. Just one of us a teacher, so there may be some hope of us enjoying ourselves once we arrive!!!

After that go on the substitute list for the Board of your choice and keep your fingers crossed that you can get a toe in the door somewhere eventually.
I'd be impressed if you can get a full time position in less than 3 years although the special needs thing may help a bit.
Good luck.
PS. What does the OH do?

It would be extremely helpful for people looking for this information both now and in the future. Private PM's are all well and good, but it doesn't help anyone else who also seeks advice.
To the OP, you may find this thread of use: http://britishexpats.com/forum/canad...vinces-660845/

Could you give link(s) to the post(s) then please?
Giving the link(s) for anyone else looking for this information would be very helpful - I am sure you also were helped in a similar way when you first sought information on emigrating to Canada.
Thanks.
