Hi guys, I'm sure this has been asked plenty of times before although I can't seem to find an answer anywhere....

I've recently arrived in Vancouver from London and have been offered a job subject to a UK criminal record check.

Does this mean I need to apply for an ACPO police certificate (I have a Canadian passport so didnt need to originally get this for visa purposes) or will a Subject Access Check from the Met Police do?

Surely they do the checking? If it's on your shoulders (i'd be surprised if that's the case), i'd go down the ACPO route.

When I needed a 10-year check for security purposes they did everything.
I lived in the Netherlands before Canada and the authorities here in Canada contacted the authorities in Holland for any police record I may have had there.
It does take a little longer to process than if they were only checking in Canada, but should not be too much slower.

The ACPO certificate is strictly for immigration purposes only. I'm pretty sure employers are not allowed to ask you to get one since thats a violation of what they're supposed to be for. Like others have said, I expect they do the check.

I had to get cleared for some federal work and I have only been here a few months. Ottawa reccommended them and yes, although sceptical I spoke with them and got it through very quick.... and no I did not or ever live in Scotland. The only catch is that their online system will only accept a UK address so (again on their telephone advice) I put in my old address which gets forwarded to Canada.
