Default uk 24th out of 26th

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/education/8008926.stm

unsure which part of the forum best suits this. for those who are having wobbles and are everywhere like myself don't suppose it matters.

anyway, food for thought if you are here primarily for your childrens future as i am.

...and this is only Europe.

I wonder where it would fit on a global basis and where would Canada fit in this list?

having only been in canada for two months, i think the standard of education, wellbeing etc etc is very good in canada. my two 'teenagers' seem to be very happy.....just so glad to have left that lot behind; makes me feel very sad for a country that was once great and now has so little to offer kids.....or adults for that matter.......

Overall ranking

1 Netherlands
2 Sweden
3 Norway
4 Iceland
5 Finland
6 Denmark
7 Slovenia
8 Germany
9 Ireland
10 Luxembourg
11 Austria
12 Cyprus
13 Spain
14 Belgium
15 France
16 Czech Republic
17 Slovakia
18 Estonia
19 Italy
20 Poland
21 Portugal
22 Hungary
23 Greece
24 United Kingdom
25 Romania
26 Bulgaria
27 Latvia
28 Lithuania
29 Malta

I am shocked, not suprised, but shocked.

Just imagine, the once mighty UK, whose empire once covered half the the globe, is right at the bottom of the heap with two so called backward east european countries, once east bloc, not far behind.

I guess that for the (post 1600 ) immigrant population Canada will score very highly. I also guess that for the First Nations population Canada will score abysmally.

That is something that is not going to be solved in yours or my lifetimes, unfortunately.

It is an extremely complex and deep rooted problem.

another curious thing, the top 5 are all quite cold. are all the kids at home, because if they go out to steal car radios and rob grannies they may not make it back to the cabin before they freeze to death.
