I have two bits of advice for anyone considering shipping a tv over, especially if its just for everyday viewing:
1) Don't
2) Buy a tv here (a cheap one will probably cost less than to ship one over) and a $30 multiregion DVD player along with it. Alot of the karaoke capable dvd players play UK (region 2) DVDs.
For less than $350 I have a cheap 32" LCD TV courtesy of Canadian tire and a DVD player that plays all my UK DVDs. If you're kids are not going to question the lack of 1080HD you'll be fine.

2) When did it cost $350+ to add a TV to a container ???
3) I would advise that when you buy cheap from crappytire, you get cheap, before you buy look at the queue at the service desk where you buy… if its long move along

2) Bear in mind that everybody's circumstances are different. If you recently bought a spanking great 1080p machine in the UK with dual voltage capability built in, and are shipping a 40' container anyway, the incremental cost of shipping a TV is zero. In contrast, the cost of buying an equivalent here is probably well over $1000.

The only advice I have is to read the wiki

I used to use the knife from the kitchen to get "extra"
pocket money, did it for years! Very hush hush! Then a couple of years ago I found out that everyone in the house was doing it! In fact my older brother used to come up from his house for a couple of pound for a pint when he was skint!
Blimey no wonder you dont see them nower days!

we read on here that people had taken there tvs over just for playing videos and dvds on for the kids. Weve done the same, taken 2 tvs bought a step down transformer 110/220 3000 watt, we put the tv on and the standby light comes on but it will not play videos or switch on, any one tell me what i am doing wrong?
You may find it will work. Out of 4 TV’s I brought only one needed the step up transformer to work and the pictures from the new satellite boxes worked fine also. So yes if you are going to the expense of shipping a container over. Put all your TV’s in. it costs no more and probably save you a lot of money replacing them when you find they work no problem. Just remember if your TV’s have scart sockets. Bring the little adapter that turns the 3 red white yellow connections to a scart plug. They come with a Wii consol if you have one. If not people like B&Q Curry’s have them etc as the connections on the back of a satilite box here are the 3 red white yellow or HDMI if you have the HD box

The TV was $300 thanks to my mother-in-law's habitual bargain hunting. I believe the play all DVD player set me back $30 or $40 at The Brick.
It's only the TV for the other half to fall asleep to.
Oh - and it's about a month old.
