TVs not working

we read on here that people had taken there tvs over just for playing videos and dvds on for the kids. Weve done the same, taken 2 tvs bought a step down transformer 110/220 3000 watt, we put the tv on and the standby light comes on but it will not play videos or switch on, any one tell me what i am doing wrong?

Could be lots of things, how you've connected it, if the dvds' are the correct region for the player, if the dvd player is compatible with the TV, if the TV is compatible with the north american system and so on.

This might be it, you would likley need a step-up transformer from 110 volt as your TV (if it is from the UK) is likley 240v. Talk to your electrical dealer before connecting anything to the power supply to be sure you are getting the right thing for your TV to avoid a hazardous situation.

TV's don't work by magic - so it will definitely be something different about the power input it's expecting. Is it getting 220V (note the UK has been 220 for a while now - switched from 240 a few years back)? Can your tv take 60Hz? Is 3KW enough? Does your remote need new batteries?

You'd need a Step Up adapter, not Step Down

Stick up the make and model of your transformer

Most work both ways’ being able to step up and step down, look for a switch on the case..

If it’s setup or switched the wrong way then you have probably about 60v at the TV

step up = goes from 110 to 220v
step down = goes from 220 to 110v

You need the former.
