When we inquired about satellite TV one instaler suggested we could put our dish on the TV antenna tower so it had line of sight to the satellite over the trees that we have since cut down.

I thought that sounded a bit ropey, and a second opinion said it wouldnt work as the wind would blow it about too much to maintain a decent signal.

I dont know how picky those microwave link thingies are, but could something like that be messing with your internet? Does it work on still days and noton windy ones?

We have had a tower erected (40ft) which doesn't look as bad as it sounds as it is behind the house and hardly noticeable with the trees. Also (this is a girly thing) it is a grey tower with a grey receiver on the top which matches our grey brick house! Obviously I would have had to get it painted it this was not the case!

Anyway, the internet man came back yesterday and tweaked a few things and since then (touch lots of wood) it has been working ok. He said that several people in the area were also having problems, it was just a coincidence that we had just had ours fitted.

Hopefully all will be ok now. Still waiting for the TV receiver to come though!

Please tell me there is more to do in Canada than watch television. We only watch tele in the UK because the weather is so bad or it gets dark early!

Good to hear that your Internet connection is up and running. Good luck with the receiver though. One thing I want you to know, from what I have been told, the model up from the 505 (the one with the hard drive) isn't having too many problems. Trouble is, that model is quite a bit more expensive.

Canada has six months of total darkness...didnt you hear? And as for bad weather, you havent lived till you've seen freezing rain or temperatures in the low -20s

Actually I find the summer weather more restrictive. Sometimes its so hot and humid, and the air quality so smoggy its all you can do to get out of your seat on the deck and go get another beer.
