The truth about winter in Canada.

Re: The truth about winter in Canada.
I'm getting the impression that you in fact are the one who has a distorted view of what a Canadian winter is like. Okay yeah it does get cold but I've never dealt with a ten foot snow drift or anything remotely close to it. It doesn't stay -40 for very long. Few days a year it gets that cold.

I have actually spent a fair bit of time in Vancouver and as I've explained on here previously I'd take Calgary any day of the week. Sunny and cold beats pouring down and chilly imo. Plus Vancouver has other downsides, like horrific traffic, smaller houses, higher cost of living, etc.

So you're not exactly in a position to comment, are you.

Does anybody proactively move to Canada for the better weather than the UK?

It gets pretty wet where we are, north of Victoria, but aren't I right in thinking Vancouver is twice as bad (rain-wise)? In which case it must be pretty wet there. Although the prospect of persistent sub-zero temperatures is equally unappealing.

Re: The truth about winter in Canada.
Certainly I am a position to comment and to judge, I've visited and its horrible. Its bloody cold and its cold for a bloody long time in most parts of Canada. I'm not saying Vancouver is a picnic in winter, it rains a hell of a lot and is unbelievably grey, but its not that cold compared to the rest of the country.
Okay you don't want to go out when it's cold but you don't want to go out when it's raining either. So if you're looking out a window I'd rather it were sunny.
