In trouble
hello,
we are just looking for a bit of help, we have been in the country particularly NS for 4 months now, and we have hit rock-bottom so-to-speak. We are both waiting for our LMO to be accepted after one failed job (waiting for 3 months for work after receiving the work permit) and has come to the point of all savings exhausted and rent now overdue in all certainty we will be facing homelessness at the end of the month. does anyone know on any avenues we can go to for help? we have tried some but to no avail (as we do not have PN or open work permit status) any advice would be greatly appreciated:blink: |
Re: In trouble
Really sorry to hear this.
Can you clarify what kind of help you are after, do you mean with jobs, or are you looking for a charity that may be able to help you, or ......?? Was it your husband's job that didn't materialise after you moved over on his TWP? If so, have you got any comeback through his contract? Have you both got LMO applications in and if so, when were they submitted and for what kind of jobs (just trying to figure out if you get one accepted, if the other would get an open work permit so you can both start working). |

Re: In trouble
Family in the UK that can send over money ASAP as a short term solution?
If you are going to get thrown out onto the streets... October/November in NS  Enough for air fares and bail out to the UK ASAP. Regroup in the UK and head back when you are entitled live in Canada. |
Re: In trouble
Bearing in mind .......
all savings exhausted and rent now overdue |
Re: In trouble
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I believe you wont qualify for any Federal or Provincial assistance programmes as you are not a permanent resident. When does the current TWP expire?

Re: In trouble
He was employed as a class 1 driver, however due to them not having any trainers, they cannot submit him for his test, therefore, no work until THEY submit him for his test, after contacting the employer and explaining the circumstances, we were told that there is nothing they can do to try and make it happen sooner (bearing in mind the WP was issued back in august) as they have no 'trainers'.
As for the LMO process going through at the moment it is for a Retail managers job, and was initially started last week. And from what we believe could take upto 3 months?? So it seems, with one person employed with a work permit, who cant go out and work because of manning shortages, and the other just starting the process it sees we are back at square 1 we thought about applying to agencies as he still has the SIN and MSI but is this legal?? |

And no - he cannot legally do agency work - he is on a WP that is tied to an employer and can only work for that employer. |

If you get your LMO, then at least it would be a 'skilled' job so your husband would also get an open work permit. Fingers crossed for the LMO, did the employer advertise the job lots, and no suitable Canadian applied? Can you afford to wait for the LMO? If not, then I think james.mc is right and you'll have no option but to return to the UK and wait for it there. It makes me so cross that people on TWP's can be screwed over like this! We've seen it happen time and time again on the forum, and it's just so unfair. |

You can ask for your LMO to be expedited - NS can pushthings through quite quickly if they need to. They need to know your circumstances.

Re: In trouble
The Canadian employer did advertise for the Mangers job for 2 months and has given proof to the CIC, i suppose we will go through that route.
We understood that it would be difficult, and we will be hanging in there til the last minute!!! |
Re: In trouble
I'm sure you've done this already, but speak to your landlord and explain the circumstances. I'm sure they wont want to evict you if this is a short term problem.
And as others have mentioned, get on to the LMO people and see if they can put a rush on things. Sorry things haven't worked out, and hope you get some answers quickly. All the best. |
Re: In trouble
Thank-you all for your comments, yet again the forum has helped us a great deal
we will carry on looking into our options |
