Default Transfering regular payments to the UK

We have been using our Scotia account to send regular payments of $500 or so to our english Natwest account for the couple of direct debits we still have from there.
But they have just 'upgraded' the way they transfer money and it is now going to cost much more to use their service.

Does anyone know the cheapest way to transfer this kind of regular payment to the UK?

Thanks

Can you open an HSBC account in UK and then here? Depending on how much you have to invest here it will cost you either nothing or £5-£9 per transaction.

I thought about opening an HSBC account before we came over but we don't seem to have any branches here in Moncton, so I didn't bother.
Not sure if they have an account you can use just online but I doubt I could open a UK one from here now anyway.

They have indeed, quite a while ago. We deal with WU Business Solutions and have been very satisfied.

How much do they charge you?

I transfer money now and again from my TurD account to a Lloyds one I have, and they charge $50 per transaction I believe. I try to do it infrequently with as much money as possible (> a few grand) so they don't screw me quite as much. Still, it sucks, if anyone has more ideas please chip in!

Well they used to charge $15 regardless of how much we sent, but with their new automated service it charges according to how much you send.
For $500 they charged $27.
Plus they can't tell you how much its going to cost until they actually do the transfer or how much the exchange rate will be.
