And another for the Auberge du Pommier - Oliver & Bonacini produce consistently great food. Canoe is certainly well up in the running if it needs to be right downtown. If you're visiting Toronto and want to combine dinner with a trip up the CN Tower, then there's always 360. The food isn't nearly as spectacular as either the prices or the view, but as a "total experience" package it's not half bad.

for something a little less formal but definitely in the fine dining category, take a look at Bistro le Select, on Wellington st West (quite a long way west, if you're walking from downtown in a blizzard, as I did once...). Excellent "rustic French" cuisine and an outstanding wine list. I haven't eaten there except when somebody else is paying, mind you, so I can't comment on the prices! www.leselect.com

Forgot all about that one, we used to eat there once a fortnight. Another good place with the tables just too close together.

I was in Toronto for business 3 weeks ago. We took our clients to "Ki" a Japanese restaurant on Bay and Front Street. It is right in heart of down town Toronto. The lake shore is a 10 minute walk away. The food was amazing but it was a little price.

I will scan google but recommendations are always good.

I really like a place by the name of North44. It is located on Younge street and Eglinton area. Great food and service check it out www.north44restaurant.com and enjoy........

I will be in Toronto on business shortly and someone suggested a steakhouse named Harbour60? Anyone tried it? I was told it is extremely upscale but well worth it.

Depends on what you mean by extremely. It's pretty good, but I can buy that quality of beef in the local butcher and grill it for a tenth of the price.

In short, it's a bit up itself.

I like Barbarian's, not cheap but not over the top expensive. I don't like Ruth's Chris but have to go from time to time, I think that might be the most up itself steakhouse. I liked Hy's but haven't been for yonks and don't know if it's still there.

I've not been there, but apparently it does still exist...

But it appears to be a franchise. I'm shocked that you would patronize such a place.

The one in Ottawa is a letdown....its full of lobbyists and parliamentary hangers on and sycophants.....basically a testosterone filled dining room for back slapping golf playing non-hypenated guys on expense accounts....oh yeah, and they serve food.

I was in Biff's Bistro on Front not long ago and it's part of the Oliver Bonacini group - it's a French bistro, food was good it wasn't too expensive either.

Auberge du pommier isn't downtown so you'd have to cab it. Isn't it on Yonge near the 401? Friends of ours have been to Canoe and enjoyed it very much so.

That pretty much applies to most of Federal Ottawa.

BOT. I've also heard that 360 is more for the 'experience' than the dining, but that it should be done at least once in a lifetime.
