Toronto fine dinning - help needed please

I will be flying out to Toronto on the 17th - 25th April. I have just remembered its my husbands birthday on 24th :o.

I would like to take him and the friends we are staying with out to dinner, can anyone recommend some nice restaurants. We like A la carte, Thai, Chinese, Indian, not so keen on Italian. Not too worried about cost, just want real nice food and good service.

I will scan google but recommendations are always good.

Thanks in advance

I like the look of Truffles at the Four Seasons in Toronto.

Does anyone know anything about it good, bad or indifferent.

Try this website:-

If money, as you say, is no object then Auberge du Pommier is a superb restaurant. Beautifully appointed, wonderful service and magnificent food, IMO. Of their other restauirants Canoe has a spectacular location on the 54th.floor of the Toronto-Dominion Centre and is highly ranked. If the evening is clear diners get a wonderful view of the city.
If you go to:-http://www.torontolife.com/restaurants/ you can get a ranking of restaurants in the city.

Thanks for your comments and the link. I had just spotted the one on the 54the floor - looks great.

What time is it getting dark in Toronto at the minute?

The best Thai and Chinese places tend to not have the kind of ambience I assume you are looking for.

Try Rain for more casual Asian fusion or Susur. At Susur their tasting menu with wine is very reasonable, I think around $200.

Here's a sample: http://www.susur.com/sampleTastingMenus.html

Personally, you can't beat Harbord St for restaurants- current fave is the Harbord Room. Plus I can stagger home from them- always a bonus.

You may want to try Tim Horton's as everyone else appears to think its wonderful.. :whatchutalkingabout

My wife dragged me to a place called Oro - http://www.ororestaurant.com/ that was pretty good

If you want a birthday ambience then La Maquette is hard to beat:

I also like the Bistro 990 though they pack the customers in pretty tightly. Le Trou Normand is very good indeed. The class at the OH's cooking course voted Jamie Kennedy's the best http://www.jkkitchens.com/v4/welcome.html but they were heavily into formatting, I'm heavily in to eating.

We were in Toronto late last week and did the tasting menu at Colborne Lane. It was fantastic!

One more vote for the Auberge from me. Superb food in a very pleasant restaurant. I am lucky enough to host a dinner party there twice a year (on expenses no less). You should reckon with a bit over $100 per head including wine.
