Welll......when you get here, and looking at the possibilities of a career change, you can try and see if you can land one of these jobs, that relates to your field. Just look at the money they pay,you don't have to live in Toronto where things are a bit expensive, you can just move out to the surrounding surburbs.

Also, thankyou for the nursing reply - I posted that aswell. Hopefully, if we are accepted, Canada will be a fresh start for all of us - my husband and I would both like to change our career paths eventually. Hubby would like to join the police force over there one day.

Wishing your family all the best in the world - it's great to hear positive feedback.

If anyone is thinking of the police then be aware that in Alberta you do not pay the fee for training which is $5000 elsewhere I believe. Also if you have previous experience in the police you may not start on basic pay but in mid scale at about $52000 PA.

Sounds good if you can get it, but with no previous experience here in Canada, am sure others will be considered before a johny foreigner.

Hi there, here my loonie's worth!
The two cities are very different in every way and would depend on personal choice which we couldn't answer. However here are my thoughts as i am trying to make up my own mind too!

Toronto is the better option for your career, lots more people = lots more hospital and police stations to be able to climb the ladder if promotion minded. It is surrounded by more towns and cities if you didn't settle in your first spot. If you culturally minded, sorry to offend but toronto seems more sophisticated with more estab theatres and galleries than calgary. You haven't the land locked feel, with access to the lakes and a short drive to the ski runs. However, the housing is more expensive unless you commute longer. GTA's pollution. Sometimes I got the crowed feeling i get i london. Apart from the lakes, they don't have the rockies mmmm

Calgary I really liked, the people know they are rednecks and they can laugh at themselves ( unless after a hockey matchall beered up and leery on 17th ave!). They are unpotencious and seem to not care about your background (unless from mount royal!). The city is escapable with stunning scenery and allsorts of activities all year. Housing is cheaper. prov govt in better shape. But can feel land locked surrounded by hillbillies, the large urban sprawl means the city itself feels small and there is no local alternative (don't even mention red deer or edmonton uurgh!)

I could go on, but i won't, i'm boring myself now. remember tho you can alway move and try the other!

They don't call us SOFTWARE PIRATES for nothing.......LOL You can see my pirate hat and skull at my desk at work, in the photopost, along with my "not so canadian" degrees on the wall. People still come round to check it out, and go, cool......LOL
