I wish they had some variety in road names. We live on 3rd line. The dump is on 5th line. Two streets over maybe? Oh no, the dump is actually past two more 3rd lines and one other 5th line, none of which run properly north-south. It took several weeks to find the place.

Sixteen Mile Creek in Oakville always intrigued me. Which bit of it is sixteen miles from where? I never found out.

Mile Zero, in a late 18th century survey of this end of the lake, was about where the Royal Botanical Gardens are, where York St crosses the harbour, which was the home station of the survey team. Mileages between there and York (Toronto) go up from West to East along the North shore. So Bronte harbour is at the mouth of 12 mile creek, Oakville harbour at the mouth of 16 mile creek. Confusingly, there's also a 12 mile creek at St Catherine's/Port Dalhousie - mile zero for the south shore is at the mouth of the Niagara River, so mileages increase from East to West.

whoops

sorry about that! I used to go during rush hour and it always took 45/ 50 mins to get to Union.
I didn't realise that the subway is quicker out of peak time.
Better being early than late anyways
