What do you need to know? I havent got mine out again this year yet, so it might be the blind leading the blind.

Failing that I noticed that round here at least there is a CT "gas bar" coupon to buy a new one for $8 with the purchase of gas. Should come with instructions

What the wind chill really means is that an object will cool off at the same rate as if the temperature was -35C (in this case) in still air. But even though it will cool faster it will not (can not) go any colder than the actual air temerature.

Cheers

Your explanation is very good... except for one thing. Wind chill isn't about how "an object" will cool off in wind. It's strickly about how the "human body" will cool in wind.

This is a dull block heater thread, couldn't we have revived the other one? I missed it first time round.

Edit: can't help with timer instructions, I didn't get one in the end...

Why even ask about block heaters? After all, when you are out doing your favorite activity - ice fishing - you won't have access to electricity.

"While the term "wind chill" is based on the removal of heat from the human body, it does not reflect the increased rate of heat loss for inanimate objects such as automobile radiators under the same conditions but they also experience a faster heat loss with increasing winds."

I have a small inline heater and pump instead of a block heater, this heats the water and in turn a larger part of the engine, which also gives instant heat when the engine starts .One hour is all it needs.

Yeabut, the rate of cooling is irrelevant. It's only the actual temperature which matters for the viscosity of the oil and therefore for the need or lack of need for a block heater.

I totally agree with you.

My comment was in response to OceanMDX's reply to an old posting of mine regarding wind chill, which had no relation to block heaters at all.

Ooops. That's what I get for coming in at mid-thread. Sorry for the confusion.

I'm just jealous that you're organised enough to keep things like that

Ha, organised...you should talk to my wife....lets just say I suffer from terrible piles

She takes all my stuff and piles it up in the spare room, and from time to time when I'm forced to go find something I know I had put somewhere safe a true "voyage of discovery" takes place.
