After appliying for PR in Canada...how long does it normally take until Visas are granted, if all goes according to plan?

Under skilled worker category? 18 months to 2 years is the perceived wisdom.

However, recently, people getting their AOR (acknowledgement of receipt of applications) are being told they may wait for up to 21 months before further contact is made (ie proceed to medicals/interview required etc).

When I got my AOR in February it said 15 months, so maybe the time is going up due to lowering of the passmark??

We applied through London in June 2003, AOR June 2003, contacted July 2004 and November 2004 for extra information, sent info and haven't heard back yet.

you know that is exactly what we fear will happen to us, we keep asking our ageny if anything has been sent back or asked for, but as for now nothing. We got AOR in jan 04, have been told if anything was in complete with application would of heard by now, but going off yours not sure now. One minute we read someone on same time line has just had there interview wavier, so you think well we should hear something, then you read yours, and wanting more info after a year of having file, it's so flaming frustating.

It is frustrating! This is why we decided to go down the Study Permit route. We just can't keep hanging around over here as it is costing us a fortune in paying rent on this cottage. The lease is up on it in June 2005 so we wanted something done before then and knowing how slow PR's seem to be, we decided that this was our only alternative. To be frank, we could hold off and cross our fingers that PR comes before June, but we have had a couple of set-backs now and we are just not prepared to wait any longer, especially on reading all this stuff about the court case and loads more people back in the system again, we could be waiting for another year at this rate.

how would you go about getting study permit, i would like to do teaching and hubby would be interseted in some kind of trade to do, but can you apply while pr going on, would it make any difference now, would we still be able to work or not?

I only applied for the Study Permits last Monday and didn't expect them to come through until after we had left for our Christmas holiday on the 9th December.

Because we are going in on the self-employed business category, we decided that it would be a good idea if one of us knew about the running of a Canadian business, so Hubby looked into this when we were out there for the summer. He was accepted and daughter was accepted at the local school, so we just decided to go for it. I was upfront and said in our application that we had a PR application in process and that we were fully aware that if our PR was denied for some reason, then we would be required to return to the UK after the period of Study. Seems that this was enough for them. I was a bit worried as I know some UK people have been turned down on the Study Permit front because they have PR's on the go. Seems that this didn't put them off us.

As I say, I didn't expect them to come through this quickly, but as they have, I am eligible for an open work permit now, so I will be applying for this once we are in Canada. Jeez, can't believe it is happening.
