Things that are more expensive in Canada....

That's not true in Ontario, we have to have plate stickers which are directly equivalent to the road tax. It's currently about $80/year for a four cylinder car. We pay about $1500 per car per year for insurance with umpteen years of uneventful driving.

Driving since 1969, age 64, live in the big city, overall clean driving record, have a fourteen year old car, 500 dollar deductible, cost me about $500 per annum (that is not a typo) and that includes the mandatory premium charged to all car owners included in annual registration. I can not complain!
Moved to Ottawa nine years ago and was shocked at what it cost. Mercifully I was only there one year.

It be quicker to list cheaper things !, one is gas at 105c ltr, but you drive longer so it gets cancelled out.
when buying food form Sobys or alike the bacon is more fat than meat, but i have'nt tried a butchers yet !, i do miss Tescos for cheap food and beer.
you dont have to pay for a TV licence, but when you buy a new Tv the charge a $25 fee, and if they did charge like the Uk, there would be a riot as to the quality of standard tv channels.
but with all the moans aside its still a nice place to live !! just not cheap

I purchased a 56lb lamb, all butchered and packaged ready for the freezer last week - total cost was $200, so that's $3.57lb. Didn't think that was a bad deal at all.

Sounds a lot - I'm in BC too, 37yrs old and drive an '07 F150. @yrs in BC, have full NCB with ICBC, and pay $300 less per year than you do for your car.

Milk, bread, baby formula, car insurance, second hand cars, mobile phones.
My car broke down last month and I could have brought a half decent car in the UK with what it cost to fix it.
Flights within Canada are also are unbelievably expensive
Overall I think life is very similar in terms of costs to the UK, when you take it all into account

Car insurance costs me approx 10 times here than in the UK for a less expensive vehicle.
You're also twice as likely to die in a car accident here!

Our Canadian relatives who were over last month spent a trip to Asda hyperventalating over prices of beer, digital camera memory cards, mobile phones and clothes (kids t shirts for 75p etc...).

Asda is something else. I bought one of their 'George' brand shirts for 3 pounds about 8 years ago and it is still going strong after much use.
