Hi there,
My family and I are in the process of applying to Canada (probably Ontario).
Looking to establish a better way of life for my family.
Forms filled in, double and triple checked and then came to getting the bankers draft....the uncertainty begins!!!
My bank (and myself) were confused by the London website stating that the draft had to have the name and address of the bank in Canada were it would be cashed, and that they would not accept drafts drawn on foreign banks!?!
Has anybody recently applied and obtained bankers draft?
Any advice would be greatly received.
many thanks
Sean

Hi,
When we applied and sent off our forms, the bankers draft was made out to the "reciever general" that was the only information we gave the bank and it went fine. Since then we've had to send off another bankers draft as we had another daughter since applying and it was made out to the reciever general again. We are now waiting on our medicals so our draft must have been fine. Hope this helps

Did you have to fillout any forms to get the draft in Can$ or did the bank just do that for you? My bank has asked me to fill out a Foreign draft request with the draft being sent to me.
Thanks again for the info. The wife was beginning to panic thinking that we couldn't pay!!

hi again!
I filled out a form at the bank there and then (lloyds tsb), I just filled in my name and adress and the amount in canadian dollars and who it was payable to. They Charged my account for the money (+ £20 admin!!!!) and it arrived on my doorstep about 4 days later ready to send with my paperwork.
Hope this helps you, if your bank is giving you trouble may be worth asking a different bank or post office to do it over the counter.

You have to think Canadian here. They want a draft which states the name and address of the bank in Canada that will cash the draft. They don't want a draft drawn on a UK (i.e. foreign) bank. It shouldn't be a problem.

What he said^
I don't think any of the major high street banks issue drafts that aren't drawn on banks in Canada anymore... You'd have a job not meeting their requirement for that
