Temporary Work Permit ... Dilemma
Hi all,
I have a query that I hope someone could give advice on. Have been browsing the forum and wiki pages, but can't really find anything applicable to my exact situation...
So, I've been in Toronto for 8 months now and am planning to stay here. I'm on the BUNAC working holiday non-student visa which expires on April 20th. Job-wise, I'm working for a small Toronto retailer as an IT Consultant - this is a contract position which also expires at the end of April.
My plan all along was to get a new job and 12-month TWP after my BUNAC visa expires, then apply for common-law residency with my Canadian girlfriend after we'd been living together for a year. Unfortunately, no-one seems to be hiring and after months of hundreds of job applications without replies, I'm starting to panic!
My present employer is really decent and open-minded about the whole thing (being an immigrant himself) and has said he would gladly go through the whole LMO procedure for me, if it would make a difference. But given that my job ends with his company at the same time as my BUNAC visa, my question is; is there any benefit to doing this? Does having a favourable LMO and TWP with one company make it easier to get a second time around with a new job? Or is it possible to transfer to a new job, or something like that? I've read around, but can't find a huge amount of solid info on this. Also, typically how long can I expect a TWP application to take?
Thanks for any help received!

Re: Temporary Work Permit ... Dilemma
One advantage to getting an LMO and TWP would be that you can stay in Canada until your TWP runs out, the downside is that to work for another employer would need a new LMO and a change to the TWP. Can you current employer not offer you an extension?
