Hi all,

Firstly apologies in advance as I suspect this question has been answered more than once before, but a trawl through the search function hasn't brought anything salient up.

Briefly: I spent almost the entirety of 2019 outside of Canada with my Canadian common-law partner, and I earned no Canadian income. (I was in the country a total of 8 days, I don't own property in Canada, etc). For my 2019 tax return I am declaring myself non-resident for tax purposes.

My quesiton is, do I still need to declare my non-Canadian (in this case British) income for 2019 on the tax return? Or should I leave it out entirely?

Also, and I'm pretty sure the answer to this is 'no' but I wanted to confirm: declaring non-residency for tax purposes won't affect my PR if I were to return next year, so long as I'm in Canada for the 2 out of 5 years rule?

Any help on clearing this up would be hugely appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks Siouxie, that's really helpful. I'd been on the CRA and canada.ca and somehow I'd not seen that page before.
