Tax non-residency question
Hi all,
Firstly apologies in advance as I suspect this question has been answered more than once before, but a trawl through the search function hasn't brought anything salient up. Briefly: I spent almost the entirety of 2019 outside of Canada with my Canadian common-law partner, and I earned no Canadian income. (I was in the country a total of 8 days, I don't own property in Canada, etc). For my 2019 tax return I am declaring myself non-resident for tax purposes. My quesiton is, do I still need to declare my non-Canadian (in this case British) income for 2019 on the tax return? Or should I leave it out entirely? Also, and I'm pretty sure the answer to this is 'no' but I wanted to confirm: declaring non-residency for tax purposes won't affect my PR if I were to return next year, so long as I'm in Canada for the 2 out of 5 years rule? Any help on clearing this up would be hugely appreciated. Thanks! |

Thanks Siouxie, that's really helpful. I'd been on the CRA and canada.ca and somehow I'd not seen that page before.
