1% off GST, larger initial non-taxable income band. Party time?

This means about $400 extra on the average Canadian's income. Now if they abolished GST I shudder to think what dbd33 would do...

GST is actually profitable for me. The simplified accounting method means that I collect n% and send the government n-2% (or thereabouts). We also get some sort of GST credit on the personal income tax for being poor so, all in all, a cut in GST is a cut in income. Fortunately the amounts are small so it doesn't really matter either way.

I've yet to find a government of any type that does not give with one hand and take with the other.

The GST cut (or the equivalent revenue) could've been better used in urban infrastructure development, childcare investment, or ... a bunch of other stuff.
You'll have difficulty finding an economist (sorry Howard, an Economist), who thinks this was a good idea.
