Default study permit applicatiuon

No doubt it says it somewhere clear as anyting, but I can't find it.

Do I have to include my son's actual passport when applying for a study permit, or would a certified photocopy do?

I'm waiting for one more document, and hope to be able to send the application off tomorrow, but wasn't sure on the passport thing.

Thanks.
