London mayor Boris was all for us celebrating st georges day, but i was really disapointed in the lack of flags out. More that last year - but pathetic really. Are we not proud to be English - seems not - just another reason to leave this country....

Does the average Brit even know when St Georges day is? I dare say there are also a lot who don't even know what it is.

Not suggesting a lack of national pride, I just don't think many people pay much attention to it as a day of recognition.

But if you are so proud to be English that you are upset St Georges Day isn't being celebrated why are you wanting to leave?

because I'm not proud to be English any more - because no-one here is. Its interesting when you are in Canada to see how patriotic you are and we aren't! England seems to be losing its individuality and identity and favours other cultures rather than our own - our children's reading books are going to be printed in Polish too and we are also going to allow schools to close for other religious festivals - what's happened to "whilst in Rome" etc.

Doesn't the boat have to be moored too?

then you are coming to the wrong place! Canada is far more multicultural than the UK............by its very nature it is as its a land of immigration. I'm no more proud to be english here than I was in the UK, but then again there isn't that much to be proud off.

Wouldn't say that is typical of most areas of the UK. I lived there for 20 years and never saw any festivities. I was always aware of St Georges Day since it falls just after my birthday on the 21 st (also the Queens).

Happen village life is more in touch with our roots, I cant say the same for Manchester. In fact i once had a t-shirt with a small st georges cross above the heart and was denied entry to a pub, since it was 'footie gear' The bouncer had absolutely no idea it was not the national symbol of the England soccer squad but was our national flag - he told me no it's the union jack.

I rest my case.
