Re: Speaking of Curry: Calgary?
Seems to me there is a serious need for some Brits to open a curry house. They'd make a killing by the looks of things.

"Canadians only like bland ethnic food"
You mean Albertans. In Toronto (much as I despise that place) people have no problem with all kinds of ethnic food including seriously spicy.

Re: Speaking of Curry: Calgary?
well folks....im hoping to be in vancouver by the end of the year, but that aside, my indian (east indian?) friends here in london say i make better curries than they do, damn it!
i keep saying its because i have so many indian friends whose wives have taught me their own personal versions, out of which ive stuck to a few excellent ones!
only thing is, you'll have to travel to vancouver somewhere to taste them!
in fact, we could have a uk get-together with curries as the talking point!
now...first to find a job.......!

I think this is actually the most sensible solution - make new friends
We went to dinner at some friends a month or two ago (they are originally from Bangladesh) - I think I had just about died and gone to heaven that evening.
It's made me nervous about a return invite. Shepherd's Pie probably won't cut it.

Re: Speaking of Curry: Calgary?
I Moved to Calgary about two months ago from London England, East Indian by origin and love my curries!! But food here in calgary sucks. There is nothing hot in the curries even if you order super Hot. Like normal Londoner I am food lover myself and been roaming around in NE area of Calgary I did managed to find some good places but the problem is all those places have some specialty rest is just crap. So i recommend Take outs from these places.
Buffet- Glory of India @ Sunridge Calgary NE
Restaurant- Mother India- Opened in one of the industrial busildings at Castleridge.
Haveli @ Castleridge Try Shanghai Fish but need to ring them atleast hour before for this. The best fish Ever had.
China Rose- Chienese Buffet in SW
Will update later. Good nite

If you want a good takeaway (the "restaurant" is basic in the extreme) try the Spice Hut on 64th Ave NE (Hunterhorn plaza).
It is not fancy at all - formica tabletop tables etc and resembles a greasy-spoon, but the food is very good.

The Clay Oven in the NE. Hopefully that's not the one that closed down.
