Default Smokin'

This is the weather forecast today for Calgary.

Not sunny, not cloudy, but "smoke" ! Drifting over from the BC forest fires.

It's kinda funny, in a disturbing way - the visibility and air quality are really poor here this morning, despite some heavy rain.

Which makes me think that the BC gang have been pretty quiet about all the forest fires these past few weeks - are you guys not really that affected by them this year?

Very true

What I have found amazing is the dire warnings about how, if one suffers with respiratory problems, one should not go outside unless one is willing to die. Me thinks they need a slight reality check

It was awful here yesterday- there were air quality warnings issued by AHS, people warned to stay indoors etc.

Well, I have been heeding their advice about not doing any energetic exercise today .... oh wait, I heed that every day

Attached pic was taken yesterday mid morning. It cleared somewhat during the afternoon, and today it's a thick haze, but visibility is a little better. The nearest fires are 100's of kms away, so no immediate danger here.

The smoke is awful here too, we drove back from Banff yesterday and the smoke got steadily worse, it's hard to spend time outside, without your throat getting sore. My daughter at cadet camp just down the road called last night, they've all been confined to barracks, there is doubt whether the course end parade will take place this morning - I'll find out when I get there - leaving in a mo'.

Nevertheless some people will die. They may already be at deaths door, but I bet the death rate goes up amongst those with serious respiratory problems.

But then again, this is good news. Long may the smoke blow over alberta rather than lower mainland BC!

Not to mention Alberta's history with Eugenics means that wiping out the weaker population will probably be looked upon favourably

I'M JOKING AND I HOPE EVERYONE IS FINE REALLY!

Looks more like a forecast for UK summer.

No such problems here now we have had some superb weather and all the smoke disappeared a couple of weeks ago but i know Kamloops is real bad.

As RICH said most fires are long way away from us.
