Some truth in that. Listening to Joe Public on the radio earlier explaining why automated vehicles will never catch on was depressing.

Maybe you should have tried elsewhere in Canada!

There is snow in many parts of Europe but not in the places we live.

Elsewhere in Canada? Not a chance.

.

why not??

Toronto isn't the centre of the universe!! In fact, it's bloomin' boring and deadly in my opinion. I hate having to go there!

Did you ever travel to other areas of Canada and see what they were like??

Not everywhere has lots of snow! and some are even very interesting ..... and no, I do not mean just Vancouver and BC.

Most metaphors don't bear close examination. ;)

The problem is the theme becomes somewhat metaphorically 'samey' which I think is a shame and useful contribution is sometimes diminished especially when newcomers to the forum are seeking information from people who live here and have negativity for negativity sake sometimes thrust back at them. :(

Reality is a shared hallucination.

I'm only commenting in the context of retirement. I enjoyed living in Richmond Hill and doing the job I had nearby.

I retired. I moved to Europe. No brainer.

The nicest thing I can say about Canadians is that they are polite (until they get behind the wheel of their financed SUV).

I live for my long weekends back in the UK where you can have a real conversation. Canadians are dull as dishwater.

If you are thinking of coming, take it from someone who believed 100% that the grass was greener...it isn't. Family, friends and a country populated by people capable of intelligent conversation is worth more than a MacMansion and a shiny new SUV.

I haven't read the entire thread but do you have kids? I have young kids and I'd rather spend time with them than have a social life. Also I'm an introvert, so I don't crave having conversations with people.

I have a couple things to say on this subject, i haven't read the whole thread but i'm moving to Canada soon and find it interesting reading why people are moving back to the UK.

i think it's very wrong of you say a statement like this as 'take it from me i've lived there', you may well have lived in many places around the world and visited a lot of places in Canada but that doesn't mean if you don't fit in then it's the fault of the people of the country. it's a very typically english trait to say something as fact because of your own personal experience.

In my experience England is full of people that are not capable of intelligent conversation, look at brexit - what a shit show that is, full of mildly racist stubborn uneducated opinions. Not everyone is like that but i've met/spoken to enough to make me leave the country.

imagine someone came to the UK and said take it from me it's awful and i've lived in may places in the UK - to then find out they've lived in sunderland, rochdale, scunthorpe and luton for example, would their view be correct?

If that's all that matters to you above everything else, why move away in the first place? if you've lived around the world just for the experience then that's great, but if you've been looking for somewhere to live/settle down then there's a clear pattern, you'll always reach the same conclusion.

I'm not having go i just think you could have worded your posts better, you're telling your views as statement of fact rather than your opinion, if other people are thinking of moving to Canada then reading posts like this could be off putting.

You do seem to be 'having a go'. I think it's fairly obvious that TheBear is presenting an opinion, even if she hasn't specifically worded it as such.

We've just done six years.

We're happy in Canada. Looks like things are at last working out after a bump in the road we had three years ago which took us from NS to ON.

I like Barrie but I can't judge as I haven't lived there. We recently made a move to Hamilton and although there are plenty of nay sayers on here I am finding it the friendliest place I've been to in Ontario. Providing of course you avoid some of the less desirable places of course. I saw a lady of the night the other day...it was still day light!!

It has taken some adjustment and I have come to the conclusion that if most of my friends turn out to be Brits so be it.... there are not many Brits in Barrie but there seem to be lots down here...

Come to my building in Vancouver. There are lady of the night on several corners most of the day.

Also open drug use in the alley and side walks.

Would prefer to live elsewhere in Vancouver but the nice areas are beyond our budget.
