It can be brought in temporarily, yes, then imported permanently if it qualifies (Sounds like it probably will). But if it doesn't, it has to be exported or destroyed ...
Did the 12 month limit to drive temporarily without registering come from the provincial authorities (sorry, can't remember which province you are moving to)?
I'm not being nitpicky for the sake of it, just don't want you to run into any surprises - I do think you'll take a huge hit on insuring it

That was built in 1976 though so is nearly as old as me Dave
