Has anyone had to have government security clearance for their positions and if so how long did this process take?

Out of interest what job are you doing in Halifax?

Sorry can't help with your question.

Sort of. The company I work for is registered under the Canadian 'Controlled Goods Directorate' as we so some work in the military sector. I had to go through a security check and provide certificate of good conduct from the local police. However this was post employment so I have no idea what would have happened if I had failed. I think having gone through the PR process and presumably a CSIS background check any further security vetting shouldn't be a problem.

In that case it's certainly worth pointing out to them that you've gone through a security check already as part of the PR process so it should not a problem. That's how I answered the question when it came up in my job interview.

Hi AX
The whole process is very confusing. I have the possibility of a position with Canada Post and have completed the security forms accordingly. Its very unclear what the security check involves. Having looked in more detail it appears its a "reliability" check although I have only provided personal and address info for the past five years. The reason for asking is that it has been suggested that as a foreigner in Canada this process may take up to a year, in which case I cannot take the position.
It sounds like its similar to the check you underwent and requests info on criminal convictions.
very confused!

Because I work in hospitals etc I had to have a police, education and background check and an international police check. Pointed out to them I had been through all that with PPR but, understandably, they did them all again. No probs though...I'd want people working around my family checked out too...

The documents I have completed only request information on addresses for 5 years and criminal background(clear!)
How long did your clearance take?

Problem is thats not what the forms are requesting. The information I have provided is very basic so I am assuming the clearance level will be based around criminal history and of a very low level. It surely cant be a higher level clearance for a CP job!?

Is this at the application phase prior to interview or after interview? If the former then fill in the forms and ask the question at interview. If the latter then presumably you asked the question then or at least could go back and ask it now?

This is post interview and pre offer. I am waiting for this to come back and will then receive the offer. I have challenged this with CP but they suggest there wont be an issue although they dont employ many foreigners, in addition this is a Canadian Government check through Public works.

Can't really offer any further advice other than 'it shouldn't be a problem'.
